GCSE Success at Derby Moor

Today’s GCSE results for students at Derby Moor are excellent, against an ever changing national backdrop of more rigorous standards.  Derby Moor is a school that serves the full ability range, and the overall picture of results represents considerable improvement on 2015.

Based on their best entry, an impressive 54% of students achieved Mathematics and English at Grade C or above, and 57% of students achieved five good qualifications.  The number of students achieving the E-Bacc group of qualifications has increased from 7% in 2015 to 20% in 2016.  Over half of our students achieved at least one A/A* grade.  Students making expected progress in maths improved from 54% to 67%, and those making expected progress in English improved from 56% to 69% (best of Language and Literature).

Commenting on the results, Graeme Smith, Principal said “we are delighted with the individual achievements of so many of our students, which are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff as well as the students themselves.  There are some exceptional results, with students gaining multiple A* and A grades.  We also have a number of other students who achieved D, E, F and G grades, which often represent great personal achievements for them.  Many of our students will be staying on into our Sixth Form, and we look forward to working with them moving forward.

At Derby Moor, we concentrate on ensuring that all students have a high quality and balanced curriculum alongside considerable support and excellent facilities.  Our approach means that students are well prepared for the next stage in their life, and is reflected in the much improved A Level results reported last week.”

Welcome to Derby Moor Community Sports College website.

I am thrilled to be joining Derby Moor Community Sports College as Principal as we look forward to September 2016.  It is very clear that members of the school community have worked hard to establish strong foundations on which to build and move forward.

Derby Moor is a vibrant school that deserves its excellent reputation, and I look forward to working together with staff, students, governors, parents and the community in supporting the students to achieve their absolute best in all things.

Whether you are a current or prospective student or parent/carer, potential member of staff or a casual browser taking an interest in the school, I trust that you will find our Website a useful introduction to our diverse and vibrant community.  However, the best way to find out about the school is to visit and see us in action.

Best wishes

Graeme Smith
