Derby Moor celebrates "good" Ofsted news

The community at Derby Moor are celebrating after it was praised across all categories following its recent Ofsted inspection.

The Ofsted report rated Derby Moor as a ‘good' school with good grades across the board including for leadership, teaching, outcomes and behaviour.  The school’s sixth form was graded as good following the inspection, which took place on December 7th and 8th 2017.

Principal Graeme Smith said: “We are delighted with the outcome of the inspection, particularly given the framework which is so much more demanding than previous ones.

“The report captures the unique and vibrant school community that is Derby Moor.  It reflects the journey the school has undertaken since my arrival in June 2016.  The report is very clear that students, parents and staff are rightly proud of the education we provide.  I am very proud that our whole school ethos is recognised in the report as we continue to embed our values of aspiration, achievement, high expectations and community.”

August 2017 saw the school achieve its best ever examination results, placing it amongst the most improved schools in the country.  This was recognised by the inspection team who stated: “outcomes for pupils improved dramatically in 2017 and continue to improve rapidly for current pupils so that most pupils are making good progress.”  The inspection team went on to comment “following a decline in standards from the previous inspection, leaders have brought about rapid improvements in pupils’ behaviour and the standards they reach.”

The inspection team were very impressed by the behaviour and application of students that they saw stating “pupils enjoy coming to school and are punctual to lessons. They are almost always polite. They welcome visitors and are keen to share their positive experiences of school life.  Pupils value each other and celebrate each other other’s differences.”

Inspectors found that “current pupils achieve well because of the teaching that they receive.”

The report also highlighted: “One parent, whose views echoed many, said: ‘I feel very lucky and proud that my children attend this school.’”

Chair of Governors at Derby Moor, Victor Green commented “this Ofsted report is testament to the hard work and dedication of all staff, students, parents and other members of our Academy community.  We are proud of each and every one of them, and look forward to building on this report to continue to ensure that every student achieves at their very best.  Now we have joined the Spencer Academies Trust family of schools, we are well placed to take the Academy from strength to strength.”
