Derby Moor celebrates “record breaking” GCSE results

Derby Moor celebrates “record breaking” GCSE results

Students at Derby Moor Academy are celebrating record-breaking GCSE results, the best ever in its history. These are phenomenal results and they have led to 59% of all students achieving a standard pass (9-4) in English and Maths (the equivalent of A*-C).  This represents a 22% improvement on last year’s published data.  In addition, 39% of students achieved the government’s new benchmark of a “strong pass” in maths and English.  The school is also celebrating a record number of top grades awarded.

Graeme Smith, Principal is thrilled and commented: “These are stunning results and they reflect the hard work of all the students, teachers and supportive parents. Our school is going from strength to strength and it was a privilege to be amongst so many happy students this morning. One of the best outcomes is that our students made such excellent progress in their time with Derby Moor, setting them for the next stage in their education.  We are proud to be a fully inclusive comprehensive school, and these results are clear evidence that students, regardless of circumstance achieve at Derby Moor.  We hope to see many of them return to us in September as they join our highly successful Sixth Form, where record results have also been celebrated.”

Derby Moor are proud of all student achievement, but particular acknowledgement is due to Imogen Griffiths who achieved Grade 9s in her English Language, English Literature, and mathematics (placing her in the top 1% nationally), as well as A* grades in her nine other GCSEs. This is a phenomenal achievement, and testament to her hard work and dedication.

In addition:

  • Aravynd Atwal achieved 11 A/A* grades
  • Haleema Abid, Muminah Akhtar, Rebecca Churchill achieved 10 A/A* grades
  • Aruba Farooq, Arya Mukherjee, Rishba Sapkota, Sumeet Singh achieved 9 A/A* grades
  • Sharleen Ahmed, Tabassum Alahi, Jaya Badyal, Ajay Bains, Sharanjeet Bilan achieved 8 A/A* grades

If any year 11 student following their results is interested in joining Derby Moor’s sixth form, they should ring the school, or attend in person and ask to speak to Mrs Donnachie, Mrs Ingleby or Mrs Coley.
