Derby Moor enters a new era in partnership with the Spencer Academies Trust

The Governors of Derby Moor Academy are delighted to confirm their intention for the school to become an Academy and join the Spencer Academies Trust.  The proposed date of conversion is 1st January 2018, at which point the school would become known as Derby Moor Academy.

Following a thorough consultation exercise, which included responses from students, staff, parents and the wider community, Governors reached their decision on Monday night.

Derby Moor’s Chair of Governors, Vic Green said:

“We are delighted that we will be partnering with the Spencer Academies Trust in this new relationship.  They have a track record of supporting schools to continue to raise achievement for their students.  Partnering with the Spencer Academies Trust puts us in a strong position to build on our best ever exam results achieved this summer, and to continue to move forward for the benefit of our students.”

 Graeme Smith, Principal said:

“As a converter academy, we are in control of our own destiny and we are thrilled to be forming this partnership with the Spencer Academies Trust.  Being a ‘converter academy’ means that we have carried out our own research and made the decision for ourselves, ensuring we can work with a group of schools that are aligned with our distinctive vision and ethos.  Our overriding responsibility is to our students as they undertake their education journey and move into the adult world.  We believe that this decision equips us to face that task even more effectively in an ever-changing educational landscape.”

Amanveer Badwal and Bhavneet Banwait, Year 11 Student Principals also commented:

“We like the way our school runs, and are pleased that Spencer Academies Trust are going to work with us to make the school even better. We are pleased we are keeping our vision and values as they represent what our school stands for.”

Gurkiran Thandi and Balwinder Singh, Senior Student Principals, added:

“We, as students, are looking forward to working closely with the Spencer Academies Trust and other schools across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to further progress our already thriving school. Our values of high expectations and a strong sense of community are very important to us and we hope to further improve our teaching and learning standards to benefit all students from all backgrounds.”

Paul West, Chief Executive of Spencer Academies Trust said:

“We are looking forward to Derby Moor Academy joining Spencer Academies Trust and becoming part of our successful family of schools. The opportunity to work collaboratively and in partnership to build on the recent improvements at Derby Moor and further raise educational outcomes for students in Derby is at the heart of our Trust mission. Together we are committed to maximising opportunities for all students and ensuring that all students are making outstanding progress and reaching their potential”
