Gagandeep elected as Deputy Youth Mayor
Congratulations to Gagandeep Kaur who has been elected to be the Deputy Youth Mayor for Derby. A fantastic achievement!
Derby Moor was among 19 schools and colleges who took part in the Youth Elections.
Gagandeep will be working alongside the 2019/20 Youth Mayor Abdul-Moiz Siddiqi from Derby Manufacturing UTC.
"Many congratulations to both candidates. The event was hugely successful. There were over 14,500 ballot papers issued for secondary pupils across 19 school and college venues. There were 8,304 votes cast, resulting in a 56.78% turnout.
In comparison, a normal Local Election across the city would have a turnout of 35%. We really appreciate the opportunity to engage with so many schools and young people across the city in encouraging them to experience the voting process. “ said Mick Styne, Elections and Local Land Charges Manager
Gagandeep and Abdul-Moiz will take up their new roles when they are formally appointed at the Council’s Annual Meeting in May 2019.
