Principal's Update 11th September
We’ve had a great week at Derby Moor. Thank you for your support on all matters in preparing your children for the return to school. They have, overwhelmingly been happy to come back to school and have responded brilliantly to the measures and routines we have in place to keep them, our staff and you as our wider community safe. Attendance has been excellent and I must thank both the children and families for being agile enough to respond to the changes in the day and at the end of the day. As we move into next week, there are a couple of updates for you that will help things run smoothly for your children:
Face coverings – These remain optional for students. We have asked that any student choosing to wear one should have a separate covering for in school that is not worn on public transport or anywhere outside of school. We will continue to review our position on this as guidance from the DFE is updated.
Lunch payments – The cash machines in school are not in use at present. As such, we are asking families to use Parent Pay to add funds to student accounts. Students are using their fingerprint to purchase food as normal. Please be assured that the finger print machines are covered in sanitiser throughout the lunch period as all students sanitise their hands when entering the dining hall. For families whose accounts are overdrawn, we still require the payments from last term to be settled. If this is a problem due to your circumstances, please contact the school. At present we will not be able to serve food from the canteen to students who do not have the funds in their account. Please ensure your account is topped up in advance.
Timings at the start of each day – The students have a window of time for starting each day. It is vital that they arrive during that window to help us to keep them separate from other year bubbles. This may mean that they need to walk slower (or faster) to school or should be dropped off further away from school to walk the remaining distance whilst siblings are dropped at other schools. We do not have any space indoors for children to wait and, at times this week the space outside has been limited with some children arriving way before their allocated window. As a reminder, the timings are:
- Year 7 between 8.20-8.30 – the optimal time is 8.25;
- Year 8 between 8.30-8.40 – the optimal time is 8.35;
- Year 9 between 8.40-8.50 – the optimal time is 8.45;
- Year 10 between 8.20-8.30 – the optimal time is 8.25;
- Year 11 between 8.30-8.40 – the optimal time is 8.35;
- Sixth Form should arrive between 8.40-8.50 – the optimal time is 8.45.
When students arrive in this window they will be able to enter school immediately without any delay, thus minimising the chances of them coming into contact with other Year Bubbles. On the whole, most students have adapted well to the timings this week. Thank you in advance for your continued support with this.
End timings – Our students leave from different areas of the building and through different exits, our hope was that this would stagger things sufficiently. Unfortunately, it does not and we are reviewing the end timings next week. It is likely that Year 10 will leave slightly earlier at 3pm with other Year Groups remaining unchanged. Thank you again for your understanding with this and for assisting us in keeping the area around the school clear of families so the children can leave safely.
